  8. INTRODUCTION
  9. ------------

  11. Agile is a special HTML editor that opens up new ways of working with
  12. HTML.
  13.  
  14. It has been designed to take as much of the hard work out of editing
  15. your Web source files as possible. This has been achieved by
  16. concentrating on implementing features with great attention to
  17. detail, and using the power of software to do as much of the hard
  18. work for you as possible.

  20. We've concentrated on making Agile work the way you want to, and
  21. saving you the drudgery of remembering complex HTML specifications
  22. while still allowing you to use the full power of HTML, and
  23. ensuring complete compatibility with your chosen set of browsers (or
  24. HTML standards).

  60. We are a small outfit based in Cambridge UK, dedicated to producing
  61. software which is genuinely useful and works hard so that you don't
  62. have to.
  63.  
  64. You will find that a lot of attention is paid to the user interface and
  65. the finer details of how you want to operate in our software. This is
  66. because every product has been produced for our own use, and so has had
  67. vocal feedback from users from its conception.
  68.  
  69. Compware started in 1983, selling peripherals and software, and realised
  70. immediately that the only way to succeed in business is to identify what
  71. people will find useful and concentrate all your efforts on maintaining
  72. that position. From very early on, we started producing our own software,
  73. so that we were able to design the products for users needs rather than
  74. just pick the best from a not always so wonderful bunch.

  76. TELETEXT
  77.  
  78. In addition to the on-line world of the Web, we also specialise in software
  79. which makes the most of the Teletext broadcasting system. If you use Teletext
  80. and don't think that it works as well as it could, you need look no further
  81. than our web pages (see CONTACT POINTS below). Take a look at the TvText
  82. Teletext Viewer for the best Windows Teletext sofware available.

  85. PLATFORMS

  88. Agile runs under Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT.
  89.  
  90. DISK SPACE
  91.  
  92. Agile will take up between 1 and 2.5MB of disk space when installed,
  93. depending on how many of the required system files are already present
  94. on your system.
  95.  
  96. Approximately twice this amount of space will be required during the
  97. installation.

  100. INSTALLING AGILE
  101. ----------------

  103. Agile installs into "C:\Program Files\Agile", or an alternative
  104. directory which you may specify. It may also install some additional
  105. files into your Windows directories if they are not already present.
  106.  
  107. During installation, Agile records details of all files and other
  108. changes made to your system, such as registy entries, and provides
  109. an uninstall program so that the entire installation can be removed
  110. easily.
  111.  
  112. Installing Agile is simple, but the precise details depend on the
  113. form in which you have obtained it. Agile can be obtained on disk,
  114. in partially compressed form, or downloaded in a compressed .ZIP
  115. archive file.
  116.  
  117. FLOPPY DISK
  118.  
  119. The disk version is ready for installation immediately. Start
  120. Windows and then run the application "setup.exe" directly from
  121. the disk. Now see "AFTER INSTALLATION" below.

  123. ZIP ARCHIVE
  124.  
  125. If you download the software you will receive it in a .ZIP archive
  126. file which must be extracted before you can install Agile. You must
  127. extract the software from the archive into a temporary directory,
  128. using a program such as PKUNZIP (for DOS) or WinZip (for Windows).

  130. It is beyond the scope of this document to explain how to use
  131. these (or other archive extraction programs), so please refer to
  132. the documentation for the particular archive extraction program
  133. you have available.

  135. Having extracted the files into a temporary directory, you can run
  136. the application "setup.exe". Now see "AFTER INSTALLATION" below.

  138. AFTER INSTALLATION
  139.  
  140. The installation program creates items on the Start Menu for starting
  141. Agile and accessing help and readme files.
  142.  
  143. When you first start Agile you will be prompted for a license
  144. key. If you have registered, this should have been included on
  145. the installation disk, or as and alphanumeric code in an email
  146. message or fax.
  147.  
  148. If you have not yet registered, you can use an evaluation key instead
  149. (see EVALUATION below), or can use Agile without a key, in which case
  150. some important functions will be disabled.

  152. Even without an evaluation license, the available commands and
  153. in particular the Help system (see the Highlights section) will
  154. give you a very good idea of what Agile has to offer.
  155.  
  156. UNINSTALLING AGILE
  157.  
  158. To remove an installation of Agile:
  159.     1) Open Control Panel from the Start Menu using the "Settings" sub menu.
  160.     2) Choose "Add/Remove Software" which will open a properties dialog.
  161.     3) Choose "Agile HTML Editor" within the dialog.
  162.  
  163. IMPORTANT
  164.  
  165. Before you forget, please make a backup copy of the Agile
  166. installation files. If you don't, you are bound to need it!

  200. Evaluation copies are available free on-line (See CONTACT POINTS) or
  201. on disk from Compware for a small charge which is deductable from the
  202. registration fee. Details and order form can be found in ORDER.TXT.

  204. The file LICENSE.TXT explains the terms and conditions under which
  205. you are permitted to evaluate Agile. If you adhere to the terms
  206. and conditions described, you are permitted to evaluate Agile for
  207. the period specified, and after that, must either
  208.   stop using Agile; or
  209.   register to obtain a full license.
